As my co-worker Jason, or any of my old boyfriends can tell you, I have very selectively sensitive ears. I mean, I can easily ignore the other 8 people in my office swapping stories as they hover near my desk. Not hear a word. But the minute the man to my left takes an overly enthusiastic swig of that coffee.....a shudder runs through me and my eyes glow red.

#2. Crying at Work

Is seeing folks cry at work my biggest pet peeve? No. But it came up today, so I'm all hot and bothered.
An office is a place for business meetings, and surfacey relationships. NOT FOR CRYING. I get uncomfortable when people cry no matter where I am. Do I hug them? Do I pretend I don't see it? What do I say? I usually end up overcompensating for how uncomfortable I am and turn into their best friend until the episode has passed. I'm sure they have no idea, but inside I am FREAKING OUT. Real emotions don't sit well with me. I prefer to save up all my crying for hallmark commercials and episodes of Intervention. I'd really appreciate it if you would too.

#1. MURDER!!!

Murder is NOT a Pet Peeve, but people telling me their Pet Peeve is murder IS.
No one likes murder. Most people detest racism. And who on this planet smiles upon child abuse? A pet peeve is something much more personal. Much more irritating. A pet peeve makes your panties bunch and your eye twitch. Things that make you want to scream while the people around you seem completely unphased. I think wikipedia gives the best definition:
"A pet peeve (or pet hate) is a minor annoyance that can instill great frustration in a very small group of people, yet is experienced by everyone. It also must be insignificant, so people insulting you is not a pet peeve."
It's these little gems that this blog is dedicated to.
